Seneca, born in Cordoba, southern Spain, between 4 BC and 1 AD, was a Roman philosopher of the Stoic school, playwright and statesman of the first century. He is sometimes called Seneca the Philosopher, Seneca the Tragic or Seneca the Younger to distinguish him from his father, Seneca the Elder.
